Politics has always sparked lengthy discussions, debates, and even long-standing disputes. But how can anyone decide where they stand without knowing what’s happening? That’s why, for the 2024-2025 school year, I’ll be serving as your political columnist for the Hatchet. I’ll keep you informed on both local and national political events, so you’re always up to date with what’s going on in the world.
As college application season starts, high school seniors all over the country are stressing out about essays and their grade point averages.
Choosing between college and going into the military after high school is a very difficult and complex decision with each having their own benefits. Both decisions include different challenges, lifestyles, career paths, and financial situations.
From movies, to TV shows, and even theme parks, most of us have grown up with Disney in some way, and many of us feel a strong sense of nostalgia for the era of Disney that defined our childhood. In contrast, we look at the Disney of today and scoff at the unoriginality and blandness. But, is the company actually in decline? Or are we simply blinded by bias for what we grew up with?
Among all the clubs at Washington High School, ALAS, the Association of Latin American Students is a cultural club that provides the opportunity for many to be exposed to Latin culture and be able to experience something new and different. Throughout my interviews with members of the club, I had the privilege of going more in depth with the leaders of ALAS and gaining insight on what the point of the club specifically is, their plans for WHS, and what they are striving to achieve.
It is common knowledge that the newest generation, dubbed “Gen Alpha,” is heavily dependent on these apps, more so than any previous generation. This dependency can have disastrous effects on the safety and wellbeing of these children.
As spring rolls around the corner, we are moving into election season. Presidential primary elections, yes, but more importantly, Washington High School voted for next school year’s class presidents, vice presidents, and treasurers, as well as ASB President, vice president, treasurer, and secretary.
From March 6th through 10th, Washington High School DECA attended their twelfth annual State Career Development Conference (SCDC) in Anaheim. 2,400 members of DECA from all of California’s three main regions (Southern California, Northern California, and Silicon Valley) competed in two main events: Roleplays and Writtens. Earlier in the year, members attended NorCalCDC, the district conference, where they had the opportunity to compete in their events for the first time. However, what differentiates SCDC from other conferences is the importance it holds in progressing to the international level.
