Humans of Washington High School: Tak Fudenna

Washington Class of 1939 graduate Takeo Fudenna gave much to his family, community, and nation.

This piece was done in Clip studio paint. I painted this for an art class outside of school, and the theme was “morning routine”. The rabbits are waking up the girl, who’s charging in her sleep. I tried to give off a feeling of serenity and trawuility with the natural lighting.

This comic is entirely black and white. Characters: -raskin the rooster -mogey the pig -bob moran Slide 1: A farmhouse lies amidst rolling hills near a pond. ‘cockledoodledooo!!’ Slide 2: On the top half, raskin the rooster looks to the left, confused. On the bottom half, raskin the rooster thinks ‘hmm.’ Slide 3: raskin the rooster, with one eye open, says ‘eehmm.’ Slide 4: A close-up shot of the house. The word ‘cocledoodledooo!’ in large blocky letters on its right. Slide 5: On the left half, mogey the pig is asleep. ‘zzz.’ On the right, mogey the pig is now awake, eyes wide. Slide 6: mogey the pig says ‘hey Raskin.’ Slide 7: mogey the pig looks out over his fence at raskin the rooster and says ‘What’s up with the crowing?’ Slide 8: A frazzled raskin the rooster says ‘Farmer Bob hasn’t been waking up!’ mogey the pig looks concerned, while another pig in the background is asleep. ‘zzz.’ Slide 9: The farmhouse is on the left, rolling hills and a windmill (to the right) in the background. There is a pond with a frog in it. raskin the rooster and mogey the pig stare at each other. On the right, there are two chicken coops, a chick standing outside the one to the right. All of the animals have ‘?!’ above their heads and look confused. The word ‘what?!?’ in large blocky letters lies in the center of the image. Slide 10: A distressed frog says ‘this can’t be!’ Slide 11: A confused cow says ‘What happened. Did he…’ Slide 12: The word ‘dIe?!’ in large, blocky letters. Slide 13: Two confused bunnies with ‘?!’ over their heads. Slide 14: A dog walks, singing ‘Doo Doo doo!’ Above the hills, ‘?!?. Slide 15: An upset dog with ‘?!’ above his head says ‘hmm?!’ The word ‘skkrtt!’ is written below. Slide 16: raskin the rooster calls out ‘Mogey!’ Slide 17: In order, from left to right, a dog, chicken, and another dog stand in front of the hills, the sun in the background. The dog on the right says ‘Did you hear? Farmer Bob is dead!’ An arrow at the bottom points towards a bubble, which is Slide 18. Slide 18: A dog thinks back, saying ‘Well if I do recall…’ On the left, Farmer Bob marks his calendar. Slide 19: Farmer Bob marking Beach Day on his calendar, the top half saying ‘August’ in the backdrop of an image with grass and a flower. Slide 20: On the top, raskin the rooster says ‘BEACH day!?’ On the bottom half, a dog says ‘Yeah, Bob is alive and healthy.’ Slide 21: In order, from the left to right, raskin the rooster, mogey the pig, and a frog put their hands up celebrating. Raskin the rooster, Mogey the pig, and the other farm animals all worry about Farmer Bob’s disappearance.

This comic is entirely black and white. Slide 1: 4:30 P.M. A worried Pepper (the male cat) thinks ‘Would a salmon colored tie look better?’ Slide 2: Meanwhile…a sobbing Kitty (the female cat) yells ‘I have NOTHING to wear!!’ From another room, the cat’s mother says 'KITTY! Stop yelling!’ Kitty responds ‘sorry mom…' Slide 3: Pepper stares at ties on a rack, thinking 'None of this works…' Slide 4: 5:30 P.M. On the left half, Pepper is on the phone: 'Hi Kitty! I’ll be there in about 10 minutes!' On the right, a sweating, nervous Kitty is also on the phone: 'HUH?! Uh…Haha…Yea! I’ll totally be ready by then!!' Slide 5: On the top, Kitty, with round spots on both cheeks, asks ‘Is this too much blush?!’ On the bottom half, a winking Pepper with twinkling stars surrounding him says ‘Looking good Pepper! *wink*’ ‘Time to go!!’ On the right half, Pepper drives in a mouse-shaped car. The caption: Into the Mouse Mobile! Slide 6: Pepper stands outside of Kitty’s door, with a rose in his mouth. Behind the door, inside the house, Kitty says 'Oh no he’s here ahh-ow. My paw. I’m okay!’ Pepper thinks to himself ‘Ok, don’t be nervous! You’ve got this! You have a rose and everything!’ Slide 7: Kitty swings the door open. On the top half, Pepper sees Kitty for the first time and is lovestruck, stars circling his head. On the bottom left half, Kitty looks at Pepper, her head tilted slightly to the right. On the bottom right half, she is wide-eyed, in adoration, stars and dots surrounding her. Slide 8: Rain falls from the clouds above. Pepper is on the left, Kitty on the right. *DRIP* above Pepper’s head. Pepper says ‘Hey…did you feel that?’. ?? above Kitty’s head. ‘Feel what?’ she asks. Slide 9: Thunder and rain falls from the clouds. The word ‘Boom!’ is above the clouds. Pepper says ‘Great.’ Slide 10: Heavy rain pours in the background. Pepper stares at Kitty, thinking ‘What do I do? Think Pepper!!” Kitty is crying, two exclamation marks above her head, and says ‘Our date is RUINED!!!’ Slide 11: But then… A lightbulb lies over Pepper’s head, a smile on his face. ‘I have a great idea! Trust me!’ he says. Kitty, uncertain, says ‘hm…?’ *sniff * sniff. Slide 12: Inside the house, Kitty and Pepper, backs to readers, sit on the couch, Kitty leaning towards Pepper. Pepper says ‘This is purrfect.’ Kitty says ‘Best. Date. Ever.’ On both sides, there are curtained windows, rain falling.

Post-pandemic, there has been a drastic rise in crime in the Bay Area. Though many students still feel like Fremont is safe, they are worried for small businesses facing the threat of crime and hope poverty and other issues at the root of the problem will be addressed.

Wellness culture is many things, but at its core, it’s the toxic belief that our bodies can’t self-regulate and that to be well, we have to constantly chase the next diet, exercise routine, etc. Why is it harmful and what can be done to make it beneficial?
