Washington basketball player Jordyn Yamaguchi recently reached the 1000 point milestone at Washington High School, playing for all four years of her high school career. Her team, which is currently 9-3 in the league and ranked 189 in California, congratulated Yamaguchi on this milestone.
This year’s Washington Huskies girls soccer team has been showcasing their incredible grit, determination, and skill all throughout the 2025 season.
The first semester of high school is coming to an end, and the weather is starting to get colder as students fret over their upcoming finals. However, that’s not the only thing that has begun to change. As the fall season of sports comes to an end, the winter season begins. Starting November 4th, Basketball, Soccer, Wrestling and Cheerleading were officially in season! After submitting their paperwork, athletes from all over campus began preparing for tryouts.
As winter sports begin, all athletes are spending long hours after school practicing. Led by Mr. Bowls, Washington’s wrestling team competes at various tournaments across the Bay Area. Historically, wrestling has been a male-dominated sport. In the 2023-24 school year, approximately 82% of students on high schools wrestling teams in America were boys. However, women’s wrestling has been growing in popularity for the past few years, with Juniors Alyse Domingo and Roslyn Turner driving this change at Washington High School.
Three years. Three championships. Three trophies. On November 1, the Washington High School Varsity Girls Water Polo team clinched their third consecutive MVAL championship win in a dominant performance against James Logan High School, showcasing their determination and skill. With this season’s win, they cemented their place as one of the most successful athletic programs at Washington, marking another achievement in their continuously growing legacy. The victory also adds to a proud tradition that stretches back to Washington’s past MVAL three-peats from 1999-2001 and again from 2015-2017.
Athletics are a crucial part of the high school experience, with events like the Homecoming football game usually being jam-packed. However, there is a dark underbelly to sports at Washington High School. Many students suffer from injuries that hamper their learning and athletic participation and potentially have life-long impacts.
Spring has arrived, and with it have come rainy days, Daylight Savings, AP exams, and more excitingly, a new round of seasonal sports such as girls lacrosse.
