With this year’s seniors at Washington High School prepping to start the next phase of their lives, they all are united by the same set of concerns. The question: “Have you been applying for colleges?” lingers in each of their minds throughout the school year, and recent domestic factors have not helped with this overwhelming pressure.
The Washington High School boys varsity volleyball team has been off to a great start this season. With tons of excitement surrounding their games, the players have worked hard to build strong teamwork, supporting each other on and off the court.
As the school year comes to a close, it isn’t unusual for high schools to see their senior students less and less. “It has always been like that,” says Principal Bob Moran, who has been in charge of Washington for 12 years.
As winter sports ended with the NCS divisional playoffs, it was once again a successful season for Washington High School. Four sports made their respective playoffs, with the boys’ basketball team seeing major success even while undergoing a change in management.

Many Washington students remember Mr. Vose as a P.E. teacher and a Track and Field coach at Washington High School. But a few years ago, he quit his full-time job to open an art gallery in Niles. This career change is unusual. Many teachers stick with the career until retirement, as they would lose access to the majority of their pension benefits by leaving the job too soon.
