WHS Varsity Boys Volleyball: The Season So Far

The Washington High School boys varsity volleyball team has been off to a great start this season. With tons of excitement surrounding their games, the players have worked hard to build strong teamwork, supporting each other on and off the court. As the season continues, they are hungry to win more games and to grow as a team.

This year, more students have been coming to the games and supporting the team, and the players really appreciate it. Ranjay, a player on the team, said the team has been getting better each week. “I think so far it’s been pretty good,” he says. “We’ve had some pretty good improvements and our team chemistry has improved too. Personally, I think I’ve gotten more confident just playing on the court.” Before each and every game, the team follows a routine to get them warmed up and ready. “We have a team talk, we do our stretches, some runs, and then we pepper,” Ranjay explained. Having a nice routine definitely helps the players get in the right mindset before playing, but most importantly it lowers the odds of players getting injured.

The boys varsity team just recently played in the Hillsdale tournament, where they played against four different schools. “We just played in the Hillsdale tournament. We went two and two and we placed sixth,” Ranyaj said. Even though they didn’t win it all, the tournament was still a good learning experience and some good practice for more to come. Another player, junior Alexander Chichon, said the season has been going very well. “The season is going great, we’re getting wins, really disciplined practices which are giving us some great improvement. I’m really excited to play this season,” he said. Alex is proud of how the team plays and believes they are really strong when they are focused: “We have hella strong hitters, we score a lot of points, we have a lot of energy and we’re always excited to play.”

However he did mention that there are still things that himself and the team need to work on. “Our server needs some work,” he says. “We have to function as a team, as a whole. There are small errors that lead to bigger problems, and there’s lots of arguments because we can’t practice as a team.” Even with these hurdles and challenges, the team has to stay positive and on their feet. Mistakes are how people learn.

One of the best parts of the season so far for Alex has been watching his teammate Jacob Ding perform. “He has to be the best player in the league. It’s so much fun watching him play,” Alex said.Overall, the WHS boys volleyball cant wait for the rest of the season and all their games to come. With all their strong players, teamwork and effort, they hope to crush all their opposition. If students haven’t already, come visit their games, which are posted on the WHS boys volleyball instagram page. They’d love to see you there
