There’s a certain nuance that arrives with spoken words and dialogue. Most people are more confident on their phones: the mask of the screen gives a feeling of anonymity that people thrive behind. As winter sports begin, all athletes are spending long hours after school practicing. Led by Mr. Bowls, Washington’s wrestling team competes at various tournaments across the Bay Area. Historically, wrestling has been a male-dominated sport. In the 2023-24 school year, approximately 82% of students on high schools wrestling teams in America were boys.  However, women’s wrestling has been growing in popularity for the past few years, with Juniors Alyse Domingo and Roslyn Turner driving this change at Washington High School.

On November 1, the Washington High School Varsity Girls Water Polo team clinched their third consecutive MVAL championship win in a dominant performance against James Logan High School, showcasing their determination and skill. With this season’s win, they cemented their place as one of the most successful athletic programs at Washington, marking another achievement in their continuously growing legacy. The victory also adds to a proud tradition that stretches back to Washington’s past MVAL three-peats from 1999-2001 and again from 2015-2017.
