As the school year comes to an end, Washington High School students have many exciting events to look forward to. From senior-only celebrations to those open to all grades, there is something for everyone. Starting off with Spring Fling and This is Us Week, the final quarter of the school year will conclude with prom, various club events, and more.

The fourth quarter began with two of Washington’s most anticipated events, leaving students with many positive memories.

This year, Washington held its first Spring Fling on March 27, with a garden-themed dance. It brought students together for a fun evening, and students thought it was a good first attempt at a spring dance. Sophomore Manit Trivedi, who attended the dance, stated that “Spring Fling was pretty fun, even though there were fewer people than I expected. I hope that there will be more hype around Spring Fling next year, if it happens again.”

This is Us Week also took place from March 30-April 3, living up to students’ expectations. Students greatly enjoyed International Kitchen and Multicultural Week, the two events that make this week a standout every year. “I especially enjoyed the various food options at International Kitchen, and the performances during the Multicultural Assembly were all amazing,” said senior Abeera Shamim.

For many seniors, this quarter is when they can finally relax and celebrate their completion of high school. With fun activities such as Senior Field Day on May 1 and Senior Sunset coming up, seniors are very excited for this part of the school year. At these events, seniors can spend time with friends and gather to enjoy their final days in school. Shamim says, “the best part about being a senior is all of the events you have to celebrate your graduation. Now that I did the hard part, I’m really looking forward to the rest of the year.”

Another much-awaited event is prom. Taking place at The Plank bowling alley in Oakland on May 2 this year, prom is the event that every junior and senior looks forward to. Shamim, who could not attend last year, is “expecting prom to be very well organized. I hope they go all out with the decorations.” Even underclassmen, such as Trivedi, are excited to attend in the future: “I’m pretty excited for prom next year, because I have heard so much about it and I want to see if it is actually that good.”

Not only are there many school events coming up, but clubs at Washington are also preparing for their end-of-year activities. Many DECA students are preparing for the ICDC competition, while other clubs are currently holding officer elections and celebrations to mark the end of the school year.

Attending these events is what defines one’s high school experience. “These events are always fun, mainly because you get to hang out with your friends,” said Trivedi. Shamim also agreed, stating that “at events like these, you can hang out with your school friends without the burden of classes and school work.” With more events coming up, students still have time to participate, and make memories that last a lifetime.
