Spirit week at Washington High School is full of class unity and school spirit, which leads up to the homecoming game and dance.
On Tuesday, October 3, Laphonza Butler was sworn into the U.S. Senate, making history as America’s first Black lesbian senator. California Governor Gavin Newsom selected her to replace the late Dianne Feinstein until the next election, in 2024.

Last year the intercoms at FUSD schools fell victim to a clever hacker who managed to infiltrate the school’s security measures and play ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ by Rick Astley over the PA system. The incident raised questions about the school’s cybersecurity measures.
This year the Washington staff voted to move to a block schedule. Block schedule is a modified schedule where on one day it’s all odd class and another day all even. It is intended to create a deeper engagement between students and teachers. This, however, can come with many different effects on the students.
In recent years, there has been a noticeable shift in the age at which students obtain their driver’s licenses. Traditionally, getting a driver’s license has been seen as a rite of passage into adulthood in American culture, signifying a greater sense of freedom. However, it also comes with great responsibility.
AP European History, alternatively known as AP Euro, has been a staple history elective for sophomores at Washington High School for over 10 years. As of 2023, the Fremont Unified School District has decided to switch to AP World History and has removed AP Euro as an elective option entirely.
