As the second semester begins, many WHS students are wondering about prom, the senior cruise, and other upcoming school events. These experiences are often considered the pinnacle of high school life, but are they truly worth the time, money, and effort? To help students make an informed decision, we’ve gathered perspectives from those who have attended these events before.
The most anticipated events this year will take place in San Francisco. The senior cruise is scheduled for March 22 on the San Francisco Bay, while prom will be held at the California Academy of Sciences on May 3. Given the time and financial commitments these events require, the question remains: Are they worth the investment?
I spoke with WHS senior and photographer Ethan Donesa, who shared his excitement for the upcoming senior cruise, picnic, and prom. He strongly encourages students to attend, emphasizing that it’s an experience you won’t regret especially if it’s your first time going to a school event. “Even if you don’t think high school is that fun or you don’t like the presence of others, it’s worth going to at least one of these. The regret of not going will hurt a lot more in the future, and going somewhere is a lot better than staying home and hearing about all the fun you missed out on,” says Donesa.
For prom, there’s something for everyone, whether you want to party, dance, or find a quieter spot to relax. The 360-degree photo booth was a major highlight last year, with students lining up to create fun animations with friends. Donesa believes the experience of prom is worth it, as it’s an unforgettable way to celebrate the end of high school. Donesa is particularly looking forward to the senior cruise, calling it a “different atmosphere” compared to other events like prom or homecoming. “I haven’t been on a boat in a while, and it would be cool to see the bay from a boat,” he said. He emphasized the importance of attending as a way to reflect on high school memories with friends: “No matter how extravagant the event is, it’s a good way to appreciate your high school journey with the people you enjoy being around.”
In addition to Donesa, WHS senior Shaan Shinde shared his thoughts and excitement for the upcoming semester’s events. Shinde is eager to attend, emphasizing the importance of making the most of these high school milestones.
Shinde encourages students not to take things too seriously and to focus on having a good time. The dance floor is always packed, and he points out the importance of exploring everything the event has to offer to get the full experience. By staying relaxed and embracing every aspect of the event, students can create lasting memories. He also adds that if you want to capture these moments, don’t hesitate to ask the event photographers or a friend to snap a picture. His advice is clear: don’t stress, enjoy the moment, and make the most out of these once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
As the final months of high school unfold, these events offer more than just a night of fun; they are a chance to celebrate friendships, relive memories, and embrace the milestones that define this chapter of life. Whether you’re attending for the first time or making the most of senior year, these experiences are meant to be cherished.
